Firefighters continued to pour water onto the fire for several hours before bringing it under control.

Firefighters from the City of Somers Point Volunteer Fire Companies #1 and#2 were dispatched at 23:52 hours on March 12 for a report of a dwelling fire on Jordan Road & Bala Drive. Asst. Chief Jay Loder arrived and reported a one story single family dwelling with fire showing from the rear of the home. Chief of Department Michael Sweeney arrived and requested a second alarm, bringing one engine & ladder from Egg Harbor Twp. to cover the town, and one FAST team from the City of Northfield FD to the scene.

Chief Sweeney had the first due engine drop a LDH supply line from the hydrant at Jordan & Bala to the scene, 300' away. Crews attempted to make an interior attack, but were withdrawn for safety reasons after it was learned the fire had possession of the attic area and was breaking through the roof.

Firefighters continued to pour water onto the fire for several hours before bringing it under control. The cause of the fire was determined to be careless smoking.
