At 8am January 28, 2007 the Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to a working fire at Kydd's Marine Center located at 555 Montauk Highway. Smoke and flames could be seen miles up the road. Multiple portable deck guns and an aerial attack were setup upon arrival.

Mutual aid was called in from Copiague and a 2nd aerial attack went under way. The majority of the fire was brought under control within the first hour but crews remained on scene pumping water into the structure for about 4 hours, making sure everything was out. Upon arrival the building was partially collapsed and within an hour the building began to completely crumble to the ground.

Crews worked to save as much as possible using man power to push boats to safety before they became engulfed in flames. SCPD Arson squad was still investigating well into the night while Montauk Highway remained closed in both directions. Multiple walls of the remains were knocked down so that investigators could inspect the structure.
