Fire Rips Through New York Newspaper Plant

Those making the news became part of the news. At about 1515hrs, Tuesday, June 15th, a fire starting in the printing room of the Nassau Herald building at 379 Central Ave off of Washington Ave in Lawrence. The fire quickly spread through this taxpayer.

Those making the news became part of the news. At about 1515hrs, Tuesday, June 15th, a fire starting in the printing room of the Nassau Herald building at 379 Central Ave off of Washington Ave in Lawrence. The fire quickly spread through this taxpayer.

What started as a fire in the rear of the newspaper bldg traveled through the cockloft into the adjacent similar attached building on the exposure 4 side. The fire caused extensive damage to both buildings. The heavy fire conditions resulted in personnel being pulled from the building and masterstream operations being used.

Six firefighters were treated and transported to local hospitals for heat exhaustion. It was 4 1/2 hours until this fire was brought under control.

Mutual Aids included Woodmere, Hewlett, Inwood, Valley Stream, Long Beach, Lynbrook, Elmont and Meadowmere Park.
