Suffolk Virginia Firefighters Respond to House Fire

The fire is believed to have started around the fireplace with heavy fire damage above the fireplace extending into the attic.

On December 2, 2006 Suffolk Fire Dept responded to a "fire in the fireplace". Units from Station 1, Fire Headquarters and Station 3 arrived within minutes of the call reporting a two story residential with smoke showing. Ladder 3 arrived first and started searching for the fire. L3 was met with heavy smoke and heat conditions on the inside and found fire in the kitchen area around a water heater. E1 arrived when fire conditions were showing from the eaves of the second floor.

E1 and L3 worked together searching for and bringing the fire under control. The fire had extended to the upstairs bedroom and the attic. Squad 1 provided utility control, secondary egress and the rapid intervention team. E2 assisted in checking for extension on the first floor around the chimney.

The fire is believed to have started around the fireplace with heavy fire damage above the fireplace extending into the attic. All occupants exited the house safely and no injuries were reported.
