Maryland Firefighters Extricate Trapped Driver

Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" and a winch from Lutherville Volunteer Squad 303 to extricate the patient.

Baltimore County, MD firefighters responded in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 5, to a "heavy rescue box" on I-695 just before Exit 21.

Crews had a Suzuki sedan underneath the trailer of a Keystone Frieght Company 18-wheeler, with the female driver of the car pinned. Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" and a winch from Lutherville Volunteer Squad 303 to extricate the patient, who was flown via Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma center in Baltimore.

Units on scene included BCoFD BC11. Engines 2 & 14, Truck 1, Medic 14, and EMS 5, Pikesville (Tower 323), Lutherville (Squad 303), Owings Mills (Truck 313), and Reisterstown (Squad 414 & Special Unit 418).
