Troutville, Virginia Firefighters Respond to Interstate Extrication

On May 26, 2004, the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department responded to Interstate 81 Northbound at the 150 for a report of a vehicle accident.

Arriving units found a pickup truck had collided into a semi. The pickup was underneath the tractor trailer confirming entrapment X 1. Wagon 2's crew began the task of securing the scene and removing the patient. Squad 2 arrived moments later and Chief Firestone assumed command, Squad 2's crew assisted with extrication.

With no tow truck immediately available, Wagon 2 was hooked to the pickup and used to pull the truck off of engine compartment allowing extrication. Units removed the roof of the truck and began a dash roll.

Units had removed the patient in under 30 minutes from arrival. The patient was cared for by Botetourt County EMS and Transported to RMH by Lifeguard 10.
