East Orange, New Jersey Battles Three Alarm Fire

On November 4, the City of East Orange, N.J. transmitted the box for a house fire reported at 50 Amherst Street.

On November 4, the City of East Orange, N.J. transmitted the box for a house fire reported at 50 Amherst Street. While enroute Acting DC Bill Higgins Reported smoke in the area and special called an additonal truck. Upon arrival of Engine Co.1, heavy fire was showing from a 2.5 story wood frame dwelling extending to exposure D, another 2.5 wood frame.

Interior lines were stretched as Truck 1 opened the roof and vented side A windows. As fire extended into the 2nd floor and attic of exposure D, DC Higgins filled out the 2nd Alarm followed by the 3rd Alarm bringing Irvington FD to the scene.

Heavy fire was knocked down in both fire buildings in 30 minutes. Companies remained on scene for anotehr two hours. Extensive overhaul was needed to open up walls and hit pockets of fire as fire ran the walls on the upper floors of the main fire building. No injuries were reported.
