Restaurant Fire in Downtown Apple Creek, Ohio

Mutual aid was provided by the Central Fire, Dalton Fire, Fredericksburg Fire, Kidron Fire, Mount Eaton Fire, Orrville Fire, Samaritan Care Ambulance, Wooster Township Fire Department, and the Wayne County Sheriff Department.

On 10/23/06 at 00:41 the Apple Creek Volunteer Fire Department was called to a possible fire In PJ’s Restaurant in downtown Apple Creek. Volunteers responding to the station called for a second alarm due to heavy smoke in the area.

Engines 101 & 102, Tankers 103 & 108, and Brush 106 responded from the station. Chief Les Durstine, responding from his home, arrived on scene with 101 at 00:46 to find flames coming from the roof. A third alarm was called and a line was pulled to protect the exposure to the south of the fire building and a team entered the building through the front door. The Ariel from the City of Orrville was requested to provide an elevated stream.

Mutual aid was provided by the Central Fire District, the Dalton Fire Department, the Fredericksburg Fire Department, the Kidron Fire Department, the Mount Eaton Fire Department, The Orrville Fire Department, Samaritan Care Ambulance, the Wooster Township Fire Department, and the Wayne County Sheriff Department.

A resident of the building and one firefighter were transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

All equipment was back in the station by 13:02. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office. The Apple Creek Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer fire department providing both fire and paramedic level EMS service to the residents of East Union Township in Wayne County, Ohio.
