Trains Collide North of Gunter, Texas

At approximately 17:54 hours the Gunter Fire Department was dispatched by Grayson County for a Train vs. Train collision North of Gunter Texas and West of FM 289 near the small town of Dorchester.

At approximately 17:54 hours the Gunter Fire Department was dispatched by Grayson County for a Train vs. Train collision North of Gunter Texas and West of FM 289 near the small town of Dorchester.

At that time, Chief Kevin Price of the Gunter Fire Department requested to have Collinsville and Howe Fire Departments dispatched. Collinsville and Howe Fire Departments were dispatched at 17:56 hours to assist on the train collision incident.

Chief Price was the first to arrive on scene, assessed the magnitude of the collision and requested even more assistance from Van Alstyne, Tioga, Southmayd and Celina Fire Departments.

Chief Price found various fire covering half mile area. Chief Price found both sets of engines on fire as well as large grass fires on both the west and east side of the collision. Large fuel spills were found both west and east sides of the wreckage.

Patients were also found on both west and east sides of the wreckage.

Due to location of the wreckage and entry into the wreckage, the Gunter Fire Department took east side command. Collinsville Fire Department entering from the west side of the wreckage took west side command.

Both east and west side commands worked side by side throughout the night to contain the fires and safely remove the patients from the wreckage.
