Lightning Sparks Oakland, New Jersey House Fire

On May 12, 2004 at about 3 p.m. a severe thunderstorm came through Oakland, New Jersey.

On May 12, 2004 at about 3 p.m. a severe thunderstorm came through Oakland, New Jersey.

Lighting struck a tree and then traveled through the roof of a house. The homeowner came home a few minutes later and found the house engulfed in flames.

The initial response was Oakland Fire Department along with one engine from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey Fire Department.

Other mutual aid departments included were Waldwick, New Jersey F.A.S.T. team, Wyckoff, Midland Park, Mahwah, Ramsey Fire Departments.

This incident was the second working house fire in three days caused by lighting strikes.

The fire was under control within one hour and no injuries were reported.
