On Sunday, May 2, 2004, 17 companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, 23 LAFD Rescue Ambulances, 5 EMS Battalion Captains, 4 Chief Officer command teams and various LAFD support resources and personnel responded to a Multi-Patient Heat Exhaustion situation in Lincoln Park.
All personnel operated under the direction of Assistant Chief Michael Fulmis.
Thousands of persons gathered in record-breaking heat for an organized Cinco de Mayo weekend festival in the large regional park.
In all, over 100 people were evaluated and treated with 8 of them being transported to area hospitals.
Firefighters using hand lines, sprayed water into the crowd to help cool the festival goers down.
