California Crews Respond to Fatal Plane Crash

The crash caused a small fire, but it was extinguished quickly

This plane crash happened early the morning of Sept. 28 in Carlsbad. The pilot was the lone occupant, and died on impact.

In all the photos, firefighters from Carlsbad Fire Engine 2216 are surveying the scene. In the last three, the county hazmat is also seen investigating the crash site.

The single-engine plane was attempting to land at Palomar Airport in Carlsbad. There was extremely heavy fog at the time of the crash with visibilities well under 100 feet.

The plane crashed into a hillside on the west side of El Fuerte Rd. in the city of Carlsbad. A small amount of vegetation caught fire but was extinguished quickly.
