Virginia Crews Handle Wrecks

The train conductor stated he saw the person walk across the tracks.

Suffolk, Va. firefighters responded on Sept. 13 for an auto accident with injuries. The crew of Engine 1 arrived in the 3900 block of Deer Path Rd to find a single vehicle that struck a tree head- on.

The engine was involved in fire, and the occupant was severely entrapped. Engine 1's crew performed a quick knock of the fire that was spreading into the passenger compartment. Once the fire was out, Rescue Company 1 personnel began an extensive extrication under command of Lt. Demitri Wilson.

During this operation, medic crews pronounced the severely injured driver deceased.

After returning to quarters from the previous accident, dcowntown units were dispatched to another auto accident in the 300 block of East Washington Street. They found the victim deceased on the rail bed.

The train conductor stated he saw the person walk across the tracks never looking at the train. Firefighters found the victim under the train engine.

The following day, C shift firefighters responded to the Southwest Bypass to a tanker truck overturned. A 6,000 gallon tanker truck on its side leaking No. 6 fuel oil. Rescue Company 1 performed the extrication. The driver was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Units remained on scene throughout the following day ensuring that the product was safely removed.
