Georgia Crews Battle Structure Fire

Upon further investigation a pizza box was left in the oven and turned on by a child causing the fire.

Ft. Stewart, Ga. Ft. Stewart 911 center dispatched stations 1 and 3 to Building 4950 (Army Lodging) for fire coming from one of the windows of the building.

Chief 3 arrived on scene of a multi story brick structure with full evacuation establishing command. The crew from Engine 1 arrived and encountered heavy smoke in the B wing hallway of the hotel.

The crew gained entry into the room and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the stove. After a primary search, Interior crew immediately put out the fire and checked for extension.

Engine 3 and Rescue 1 arrived and set up ventilation. Engine 5 arrived setting up RIT. Ft. Stewart EMS (two medic units) arrived and staged in the area. Command advised Medic 1 of one patient experiencing an asthma attack due to the thick smoke.

Once the fire was out, crew's searched each room checking on occupants and clearing the smoke from the rooms. Upon further investigation a pizza box was left in the oven and turned on by a child causing the fire. One patient was transported to the hospital.
