Tornado Strikes Savannah's Skidaway-Sandfly Area

Firefighters ran multiple calls during and after the storm.

National Weather Service officials confirmed that an EF-1 Tornado touched down, destroying several homes and businesses including the Lake Mayer Church of Christ.

The National Weather Service said the tornado developed just north of the intersection of Montgomery Cross Roads and the Truman Parkway. It traveled south for about three quarters of a mile.

Savannah and Southside Fire Department's ran multiple calls during and after the storm for reports of trees on homes and wires & poles down.

Georgia Power has been on scene restoring over 11,000 homes that had been without power since Thursday.

American Red Cross has been called in to assist with placing of residents in hotels since several homes and mobile homes had been destroyed.
