One firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Just before 4 a.m. on May 18, Denver Firefighters were called to the Holly Square Shopping Center near 33rd & Holly Street in North Denver for a structure fire. Denver Police reported smoke and flames showing while responding to the location for an alarm.

Crews initially made an interior attack. Then, they went defensive due to building construction and extension. The fire quickly spread through the common attic space above a liquor store, dollar store and dentist office prompting nearly three alarms to respond.

Several aerial and ground master streams were placed into operation. It took crews more than two hours to bring the fire under control. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.

Three businesses were a total loss, while a fourth business was heavily damaged by smoke and water. The investigation into a cause continues.
