On Saturday, May 10 at approximately 6:15 a.m., the City of Niceville Fire Department along with East Niceville Fire District was dispatched to Mile Marker 8 of State Road 285 located in Okaloosa County, Florida.

The initial call was for a semi truck accident with entrapment and unknown hazardous materials. Units arrived on scene to discover a Budweiser truck on its side with a large diesel fuel leak, the driver heavily entrapped and a Dodge Dakota pickup truck through the side of the trailer and lodged inside. Crews extricated the driver of the Budweiser truck in 22 minutes and airlifted him to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota truck escaped with minor lacerations. The accident occurred when a wild turkey flew through the windshield of the Budweiser truck striking the driver in the face and causing him to lose control of the truck.

The truck jack-knifed and rolled several times, pinning the driver. Due to the amount of fuel leaking from the truck, Okaloosa County Special Operations was dispatched to assist in containing the spill.

The road remained closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the fuel, oil and beer.
