Georgia Firefighters Battle Blaze

At 9:30 a.m., Chatham County, Ga. 9-1-1 dispatched Southside Fire to the Chapel Park subdivision in the Berwick Plantation.

En route, units were advised that there were several calls received confirming a working fire at 202 Chapel Lake south. Crews from Engines 5 and 7 found a two-story single family dwelling with heavy fire venting from the second floor with fire already through the roof.

Crews quickly laid a supply line while firefighters pulled 2- 1 3/4-inch lines. One protected the exposure which had already suffered heat damage and the other was advanced into the structure.

Dispatchers paged out additional personnel to assist with the incident while Savannah-Chatham police blocked off surrounding roads for safety. EMS arrived to assist in firefighting tactics. It took firefighters 30 minutes to knock down the fire. Air 1 & Southside Fire Auxiliary supported the firefighters working on the fire.

Command requested Savannah Chatham police investigators to assist in determining the cause of the blaze. American Red Cross was called in the assist the family who just returned home.
