Feb. 6, 2012

Rochester, N.Y. -- Firefighters responded for a report of dark black smoke coming from the roof of a house on Dartmouth Street on Jan. 31.

While responding, the assignment was upgraded for a house fire. The crew of Engine 1 went on location with a working fire on the “B” side of a large two-and-a-half story house.

Command requested additional companies making a second alarm. Responding were Engine 12, 3 and Truck 3.

When things started to change, the officer ordered everybody out of the attic and eventually ordered an evacuation of the house.

A collapse zone was established. The fire was reported around 12:45 and not brought under control until about 5 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
