Minnesota Crews Tackle Townhouse Fire

May 25, 2012

Firefighters contained a townhouse fire in Oakdale on May 20.

At 4:21 p.m. Oakdale firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fully involved attached garage fire.

Captain 7211 reported heavy fire from the "A" side garage of a two-story,  multi-unit townhouse building.

Ladder 7287 deployed a 2 1/2-inch Blitzfire monitor on the main body of the fire. That was followed by an 1 3/4-inch handline that was extended to the interior of the structure after the knockdown of the main body of fire in the garage.  A water supply was established from a hydrant nearby.

Mutual aid was received from Woodbury and Maplewood.

Residents from all eight units in the building were evacuated as a precaution. All were later allowed to return, except those from the unit where the fire broke out.

The fire appears to have started in the garage area, however the exact cause is still under investigation.

Two engines, two ladders, two ambulances, a command van and two chiefs responded from Oakdale.
