Occupants Rescued from N.Y. Apartment Fire

Twelve companies responded to a stubborn apartment fire in Rochester on Sept. 9.

Battalion 1 requested a full assignment after seeing a large column of smoke as he responded to a reported house fire First Street.

Engine 17 went on scene with heavy fire showing from the upper floor of a large apartment building and requested a second alarm. The apartments were converted from an old school building.

Firefighters rescued several residents from the building and brought them to safety. Several ambulances were called to the scene.

As intense flames continued to shoot from the structure a third alarm was orderd by the deputy chief. 

The fire was brought under control in 37 minutes.
