Fire Destroys Indiana Shopping Complex

Dec. 28, 2012

Firefighters arrived to find a shopping center in Newburgh fully involved early on Nov. 24.

Crews from Newburgh and Ohio Township Fire Departments found fire that vented itself through the windows and the truss roof on the south side of the building. The building was home to nine businesses and a church.

A second alarm was transmitted right away and department's went into a defensive mode with aerial apparatus, large handlines and deck guns.

Additional firefighters from Chandler and Yankeetown responded to the scene.

The fire had been burning undetected for at least 30 minutes and the Indiana State Fire Marshals office was contacted due to the magnitude of the fire.

A demolition company was called to assist with moving debris and douse hot spots. Units remained on scene for hours and the last truck left the scene about 12 hours later.
