Multiple Alarm Blaze Hits Ill. Warehouse

April 19, 2013
Multiple fire departments responded to a fire in a East Peoria storage building on April 17.

Firefighters from the East Peoria Fire Department battled a large warehouse fire on April 17.

The storage building was located between the Tazewell & Peoria Railroad yard and a Caterpillar Tractor Company plant and was reportedly caused by a lightning strike during a severe thunderstorm.

Firefighters from the Peoria Fire Department, across the Illinois River, along with Washington and several other departments helped battle the fire.

In addition to the blaze, wind, heavy rains and hail made the task of battling the smoky blaze more difficult.

Reports were the building contained large amounts of propane tanks, along with several piles of pallets.

The steel building burned for several hours and heavy equipment was brought in to the site to tear steel sheeting on exterior walls down to get at the fire.
