A two vehicle creash in Smithsburg on June 26 left one person dead and three injured. Three helicopters were called to the scene to transported the injured.

Emergency crews from Smithburg and West Union Volunteer Fire Departments, Doddridge County Ambulance Authority and Doddridge County EMS responded to an accident on U.S. Route 50 at the intersection of Long Run Road.

Smithburg Rescue 3 arrived on scene to find two patients inside one vehicle with one heavily entrapped and they began extrication efforts.

One patient was ejected and a second was still inside the second vehicle.

Crews worked for 15 minutes to free the one victim egan extrication on vehicle #1 taking 15 minutes to remove the victim.  The passenger in vehicle #1 and juvenile passenger in vehicle #2  were removed by DCAA.  One pt was pronounced dead on the scene. 3 medical helicopters were requested to the scene and transported the 3 remaining pts to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
