Fire officials say discareded coals caused a two-alarm fire in Bel Air on July 17.
At 1:59 a.m., the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a townhome on fire with a report of entrapment in the 900 block of Pentwood Court.
Chief 3-2 arrived at 2:03 and found two well-involved townhomes. A second alarm was requested.
E311's crew extended a BlitzFire line to knockdown the fast spreading fire in the rear.
E314's crew extended interior lines to both townhomes and Tower 331's crew placed the aerial in service and worked with in the interior with engine crews.
Additional personnel from Abingdon, Level, Fallston and Joppa assisted in extinguishment and overhaul.
Damage estimates are approximately $300,000 and it was determined that the fire originated on the rear deck and was caused by improperly disposed coals from a charcoal grill.
