Photo Story: Fire Consumes Barn in Rural Kansas

The Montgomery County Rural Fire was dispatched to a reported barn fire and while enroute, a glow and large smoke column was visible.

Nineteen firefighters responded to a barn fire in the Sycamore on July 21.

The Montgomery County Rural Fire was dispatched to a reported barn fire and while enroute, a glow and large smoke column was visible.  

Upon arrival firefighters found a 60-by-80-foot metal-frame storage barn fully engulfed and the fire threatening other out buildings and a small electrical service shed. The barn contained a tractor and baler as well as several hundred bails of feeding hay.

The first hoselines were placed to protect the nearby buildings.

A second request was made for mutual aid from the neighboring from Independence, Cherryvale and Elk City to establish a water supply.  

A total of 19 firefighters and eight units were on scene for approximately four hours.
