Photo Story: Md. Firefighters Called to Townhome Fire

Dec. 6, 2013
Firefighters from Howard and Montgomery counties responded to a fire involving two townhomes in Clarksville.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Dec. 2, firefighters and paramedics from Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) were dispatched to the 6000 block of Blue Point Court in Clarksville for a report of smoke. Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the second story of an end townhome unit.

Crews initially started offensive attack in end townhome, but had to switch to a defensive attack as the structure became unsafe. Fire and smoke also spread to adjacent townhomes which required crews to use offensive firefighting tactics in those units.

It took roughly an hour to bring the fire under control.

Approximately 70 fire personnel were on scene with mutual aid provided by Montgomery County.

One Howard County firefighter did sustain a minor injury but was not transported to the hospital. No civilian injuries reported.

Two townhomes were deemed uninhabitable.

Fire investigators are working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
