When Independence Fire/EMS units arrived there was light smoke showing from the roof line.

At 9:22 a.m. on Nov. 24, Independence Fire/EMS were alerted to a reported structure fire.

Police dispatch confirmed multiple calls and added information that the occupants may still be in the dwelling. A second alarm was struck bringing in off-duty personnel and the department of chief.

Upon arrival there was light smoke showing from the roof line as well as pushing out from under the shingles. It was confirmed at this time that all occupants had been accounted for.

Crews entered the dwelling and found the attic to be heavily involved, with no scuttle for access.

A crew was sent to the roof to perform vertical ventilation. Once this had been completed crews reentered the structure and pulled ceilings gaining access to the attic.

The fire was knocked down, but the building suffered heavy structural damage and was deemed a total loss.

No injuries were reported.
