Photo Story: Water Shuttled to Mo. House Fire Scene

Dec. 13, 2013
Southern Stone County Fire Protection District firefighter saved a chicken cook as a dwelling fire was quickly consumed by flames.

A Southern Stone County Fire Protection District chief kept a resident from re-entering a burning home in Branson West on Dec. 7.

Crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Talking Rocks Road and Battalion Chief James Harding had to keep the homeowner from going back into the home. The owner was attempting to rescue his two dogs. The chief said it was obvious the home was ready to flashover.

Two were able to escape the fire, but the man sustained minor burns to his shoulder. He was evaluated by EMS and was not transported.

The owner stated he loaded his exterior wood burning stove for the first time this year and soon after noticed smoke. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, but the flames quickly extended into the attic.

The home was fully involved when the first engine arrived.

Crews were able to stop the blaze before it spread to a chicken coop and all four chickens survived.

Firefighters shuttled water from a hydrant about 2 miles away.
