Wood burning stove ignites Portland house fire.

At 4:01 p.m. on Feb. 22, Portland firefighters were called to a house at 2924 SE 145th.

Firefighters from Station 7 (Mill Park) arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the first floor/basement and from the second floor of a split level home. Firefighters from engine crews began extinguishing the fire while firefighters from ladder trucks began searching for trapped occupants and cutting a ventilation hole in the roof to vent deadly fire gases.

The fire was brought under control and firefighters began the difficult and labor intensive task of overhaul. Only one of the homes occupants was home when the fire started and he got out safely. No injuries were associated with this fire.

A Portland fire investigator has determined that this fire was caused by a wood burning stove and has estimated damages at $18,000.
