Photo Story: Two Rescued from Minn. Duplex Fire

Firefighters rescued one person and neighbors rescued a second during a July 21 house fire in St. Paul.

Shortly after midnight, St. Paul firefighters were dispatched to a dwelling fire in the 400 block of Goodrich Avenue. Additional callers reported people trapped in the home.

Engine 10, Ladder 10 and Squad 3 arrived to find heavy fire from the rear of the 2 1/2-story duplex. Several people were on a porch roof assisting one resident in escaping from the second floor.

Firefighters quickly entered the structure to search for the second victim as flames engulfed the rear of the home and spread into the structure. The victim was located on the second floor and removed for treatment by medic units.

Crews deployed several handlines to begin attacking the fire that started on the porch and spread to the home and detached garage. Several acetylene? and oxygen tanks exploded in the driveway.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 20 minutes.

The fire caused the siding on the adjacent home to melt.

A total of four engines, two ladders, two squads, two medics and two chiefs responded.
