Photo Story: Fire Spreads Through Oregon Building

Aug. 11, 2014
A three-alarm fire spread from the basement to the top floor of a three-story mixed use building in Portland.

At 6:00 a.m. on Aug. 8, Portland firefighters were called to 205 SE Grand Avenue for a structure fire.

When firefighters from Station 21 (Eastbank/Hawthorne) arrived they found dark smoke and fire coming from the side of a three story mixed-use building. The fire extended from the basement to the top floor and was running through void spaces and inside walls.

Firefighters began fighting the fire and working to evacuate residents who lived in the apartments that occupy the top floor. The residents were successfully evacuated.

The remainder of the building is made up of various businesses and firefighters worked to protect and salvage contents.

Three alarms were sounded to contain the fire.

During the fire fight, crews encountered energized electrical lines and called the power company.
