Photo Story: Tanker Explodes in New Orleans

An 8,500-gallon gasoline tanker lost control and burst into flames in New Orleans on Oct. 3.

The three-alarm fire was dispatched at 2:32 a.m. when a wrong-way driver caused the 18 wheeler to crash into a sign at a gas station near Franklin & Claiborne Avenues. The truck caught fire immeditely. 

Firefighters protected the exposures until it was deemed safe. At that point, crews moved in and contained the fire with foam.

The driver of the truck was killed and the driver of the car was uninjured.
