Photo Story: Md. Fire Reaches Two Alarms

Feb. 2, 2015
Montgomery County firefighters called a second alarm to help contain a townhome fire in Rockville.

A 73-year-old man was seriously burned when fire damaged a Rockville townhouse on Jan. 29.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service firefighters were dispatched to 10921 Brewer House Road at 1:30 a.m. when a neighbor called 911 after the man was knocking on her door yelling fire.

Engine 726 reported flames coming from several windows in an end of the row, two-story townhouse. A second alarm was requested.

Crews began attacking the fire from the exterior before transitioning to an interior attack.

Paramedics began treating the resident, who suffered second and third degree burns to 30% of the body.

The man told officials that a smoke alarm woke him up and he tried to extinguish the fire before escaping.

Investigators say the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical failure or malfunction in a floor outlet.

Firefighters returned to the neighborhood to hand out smoke alarms to residents that afternoon.
