Fort Worth firefighters transitioned to a defensive attack as flames spread through the second floor.

An early morning apartment fire left one man dead in Fort Worth on Feb. 2.

Firefighters were called to the 1300 block of Clinton Avenue around 3:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames from the large two-story home. Officials said it contained several small apartments.

After a brief interior attack was made, crews pulled out of the structure for a defensive attack as flames engulfed the second floor.

Crews discovered the body after they returned to the interior.

Ten residents were left homeless by the fire.
