Photo Story: N.C. Crews Rescue Dog, Good Samaritan

March 6, 2015
Shortly after rescuing a dog, a Good Samaritan needed some rescuing of his own when his car crashed into a swamp.

A Good Samaritan needed some rescuing of his own after he rescued a dog on Feb. 25.

The man was heading home on Route 301 in Nash County when he spotted a small dog on the busy road that was nearly hit by numerous cars. He stopped and was able to rescue the dog off the highway and place it in his car.

He continued on his way home and somehow lost control of his car, driving over an embankment into a swampy area of Route 301.

Firefighters from Whitakers Station 10 along with Nash County EMS Unit 9 were dispatched to the accident with possible entrapment.

Upon arrival they found one male victim with minor cuts to the head. The man told firefighters that there was a dog still inside his car which was now submerged in the swamp.

Firefighters placed a ground ladder over the swampy area to the front door of the car, where firefighter Josh Garris was able to enter the car. Inside, he found the frightened, injured dog on the floor in the back.

The EMS crew treated the driver, who was not seriously injured, and returned the dog to him.

It was later learned that the Good Samaritan was now the victim for his good deed, and now had a totaled-out car.
