Several fire companies battled a barn fire at a winery in the Town of Scotland on July 4.
The call was dispatched to the Hillside Winery around 4:20 p.m. and crews found the hay loft engulfed in flames and rapidly extending. The barn contained equipment and supplies for the winery, but the wine was recently moved to an adjacent building.
Departments from Baltic, Canterbury, Lisbon and Windham responded on mutual aid. Additional departments were called for brush units to contain fires in the adjacent hay fields.
Firefighters battled the fire and hot weather and remained on scene for hours.
Water was shuttled to the scene with tankers and a 5-inch hoseline supplied water from a nearby poind.
