The Apparatus Architects: New Vehicles Unveiled at Firehouse World

March 11, 2011

Tom Shand hosts this month's podcast alone as colleague Mike Wilbur is off in the Pacific at a training program.

He talks about the new fire apparatus that were on display at Firehouse World in California last week. He takes listeners on a virtual walking tour of the exhibit floor and details the pumpers, ladders, rescues and support vehicles.

The focus of this podcast is on the new wildland units that were unveiled at this West Coast event. Several manufacturers displayed new models of wildland firefighter vehicles and Tom details the highlights of each unit.

Tom offers updates on recent apparatus crashes, including one where a ladder truck ran a red light and crashed, killing an occupant in the other vehicle. He also shares some information on the apparatus industry, including some changes in company ownerships.
