Fire Marshal's Corner: Battling Sprinkler Opponents in Texas

June 25, 2009

This month on Fire Marshal's Corner, host Ed Comeau looks at the residential sprinkler issue, following up on last month's show. Legislation was introduced recently in Texas in a last-minute attachment to a bill that would bar communities from allowing residential sprinkler ordinances or code adoptions. This definitely sneaked in under the radar screen and the fire service in Texas mobilized in response, holding press conferences in both Austin and Plano to draw attention to the bill and ask the governor to veto it.

Ed's guests include: Gary Keith, vice president of Field Operations with NFPA; Joe Pierce, deputy chief with the Dallas Fire and Rescue Department and vice chair of the IAFC Fire and Life Safety Section; Shane Ray, chief of the Pleasantview, TN, Fire Department and associate director of Public Fire Protection with the National Fire Sprinkler Association.
