HOUSTON, TX, MARCH 21, 2011 – Houston Fire Department EMS crews assemble equipment for an EMS staging area near a burning three-story retirement center. The fire was reported shortly before 4 P.M. and escalated to three alarms. The flames appeared confined mainly to an attic space, but the third floor was filled with smoke. All of the estimated 90 residents were soon accounted for outside after many were assisted by firefighters and few requested onsite evaluation by EMS. One firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation after complaining of chest pains.
