Minneapolis, Minn. (October 7, 2010) – EarthClean Corporation, a Minnesota-based start-up company, announced today that its TetraKO™ biodegradable firefighting gel was named a Cleantech Open regional finalist and will compete for the national title in California. As one of three North Central division winners to advance, EarthClean will receive $30,000 worth of investments and services. The national winner, selected on November 17, will receive $250,000 worth of investments and services.

“On the heels of just being name grand prize winner of the Minnesota Cup competition, this recognition by the Cleantech Open demonstrates that EarthClean’s mission to develop and introduce environmentally sound products to the fire service is resonating across the country,” said Doug Ruth, EarthClean Corporation founder and CEO. “We look forward to presenting our biodegradable and non toxic technology to the judges in California.”

TetraKO™ is a direct response to the growing concern over the toxicity of existing firefighting foams and super absorbent polymer based products used by fire departments across the country, as well as the large amounts of phosphorus and ammonia dioxide – harmful to fish, mammals and plants, as well as streams and rivers – contained in the leading fire retardant used on wildfires in our nation’s forests.

More than 270 cleantech entrepreneurs from across the country submitted applications earlier this year. EarthClean is one of three finalists to come from the North Central division. The mission of the Cleantech Open is to find, fund and foster companies with big ideas that address today’s most urgent energy, environmental, and economic challenges. Since its start in 2005, companies from Cleantech Open competitions have raised venture capital funding in excess of $260 million and have created more than 1,200 green sector jobs.
