A Southend based firm called Nutec Medical/A-Z innovations has picked up a prestigious international award in Dubai at Arab Health 2010, the largest medical trade fair in the Middle East.

The winners of the 2009 Health and Innovation awards were chosen by the Middle East Hospital magazine. The award for the most innovative piece of hospital equipment for export to the Middle East went to the Parkskate range. NuTec, along with the other UK winners, were presented with their award by Lord Darzi, the former UK Health Minister, who was appointed as a UK Business Ambassador by the Prime Minister in 2009. Lord Darzi said:

"These firms represent the very best of UK innovation and excellence. Their work will save lives and improve the quality of life for people around the world. I congratulate these pioneering firms on the recognition they have achieved."

Rob Moor, Managing Director of NuTec, said, "Gas bottles are in widespread use in the healthcare industry and they are tall, thin and heavy. The dangers their instability poses while they are being moved and in use are considerable and this is a worldwide problem. Previous systems to keep gas bottles in place simply do not work effectively. But by using Paragrip and its counterpart Paraskate, a simple mini-trolley, stability of bottles is greatly increased both in use and in transit. To win this award is a fantastic achievement for the company and it is a tremendous honor for us to be recognized by the Arabic healthcare world. This award will help us expand our business and operations both in the UK and internationally."

Notes to editors:

1. NuTec Medical invents and designs medical products such as the ParaSkate, Paradoc and the Paragrip. These products are patented and represent major improvements in how medical staff and patients are treated. The ParaSkate has been specifically designed to assist in the handling of gas cylinders. The ingenious design allows cylinders simply to be dropped into the ParaSkate - the cylinder is automatically gripped and allows the user to maneuver the cylinder as required without lifting the cylinder, and without use of trolleys, which significantly reduces health and safety risks.
