Sperian Fire Awarded Major SCBA Contract in Palm Beach County, Florida

PALM BEACH, FL, August 19, 2009 — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has awarded a major contract for nearly 600 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) and related equipment to Sperian Fire and its exclusive South Florida distributor, Safety Solutions International. The award is believed to be the largest of its kind in Florida in 2009.

The award, based on an evaluation of SCBAs from all leading manufacturers, falls close on the heels of another major contract award. The County of Los Angeles Fire Department, the third largest fire department in the United States, recently approved the purchase of more than 4000 Warrior SCBAs.

Sperian will provide Palm Beach County with 585 Warrior™ SCBAs, 1750 cylinders and 1400 facepieces, as well as RIT Kits, WMD adaptors and related equipment. The Palm Beach County units will also come equipped with the new Sperian Digital Dashboard™ heads-up display (HUD).

The Digital Dashboard™ is a simple, reliable and easy-to-read, hard-wired Heads-Up Display (HUD) that provides firefighters with continuous LCD illustration of critical air management information such as cylinder air volume and air time remaining displayed in minutes and percentage of air remaining in the cylinder. “What is so great about the Digital Dashboard is the fact that it tucks nicely in the facepiece, does not obstruct the view of the user and provides reliable, real-time SCBA information,” said Jeff Shipley, Product Manager.

“The Palm Beach County evaluation process was tough,” said Troy Cool, both a firefighter and a vice president at Safety Solutions, “but the Warrior did great.”

“The evaluation team was really impressed with the ergonomic design,” he said. “It’s comfortable, adds maneuverability and really reduces back stress.”

“Both Palm Beach and Los Angeles are progressive, top-notch fire departments that demand progressive, top-notch equipment,” said Sperian vice president Bill Sokol.“The Warrior represents a new generation of SCBA, and these independent evaluations and awards, made on both coasts, validate Sperian’s incorporation of firefighter input into innovative design.”
