CHARLOTTE, Michigan, April 14, 2005 -Spartan Chassis, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR), is introducing a redesigned four-wheel drive fire rescue vehicle at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 14, 2005.

The new 4x4 chassis supersedes the high-profile design of a typical four-wheel drive vehicle by offering a cab and chassis that is lower to the ground, providing a safer ride in a more accessible cab.

The Spartan 4x4 has the same cab height as a standard 4x2 chassis, a cab design that is unique to the industry. The low, wide steps, and tall, wide doors facilitate quick entry and egress, which is especially convenient when fire fighters are weighed down in full gear. The vehicle has a lowered center of gravity, which improves control, balance and maneuverability. The traction that comes from the four-wheel drive operation provides optimal performance in both rural and urban terrains and in all weather conditions.

"Over twenty-thousand fire rescue personnel are in attendance at this year's FDIC, training and preparing for effective emergency response," said Richard Schalter, president of Spartan Chassis. "We are here introducing the new 4x4 cab and chassis that will serve to better protect these firefighters and their communities."

The flexibility and functionality of Spartan's products enables fire departments to customize a cab and chassis that will have all the components and specifications necessary to fulfill their needs. Spartan is responding to the growing trend in the industry as departments look to increase safety, functionality, and off-road capability with their new 4x4 cab and chassis.

The new 4x4 cab and chassis is on display at the Spartan Chassis booth (#2537), and a complete truck can be viewed at the Rosenbauer of America booth (#6340).
