Streamlight® Introduces Fire Vulcan® Lantern

Streamlight, Inc., a leading manufacturer of lighting equipment for the fire and rescue industry, introduces the new Fire Vulcan rechargeable lantern.

EAGLEVILLE, PA -- Streamlight, Inc., a leading manufacturer of lighting equipment for the fire and rescue industry, introduces the new Fire Vulcan rechargeable lantern. The first of its kind to feature dual LED taillights, the new model provides a new level of visibility - enabling firefighters using the Fire Vulcan in smoky environments to be seen by others regardless of which direction the light is shining. Other lighting and usability enhancements also provide an added measure of safety to firefighters.

According to Streamlight President Brad Penney, the new safety elements incorporated in the Fire Vulcan, including dual LED taillights, reflect the input gathered from professional firefighters. "While flashlights are obviously used by firefighters to navigate a burning structure and find trapped people," Penney explained, "they are also used to identify and locate other firefighters as they travel through a dimly lit, smoke-filled room. For this reason, our new Fire Vulcan is equipped with two ultra-bright blue LED taillights that make it possible to locate a firefighter regardless of which way the light is shining."

Modeled after the original Vulcan, the Fire Vulcan, with its primary halogen bulb and LED taillights, can be programmed to produce a range of lighting combinations: halogen only in steady mode, LEDs only in blinking mode, or halogen and LEDs in steady and/or blinking mode. Depending on the selected lighting mode, run time can range from 3 hours (steady halogen bulb and LEDs) to 60 hours (blinking LEDs only). "The 3-position toggle switch which activates the lighting modes has been improved so the Fire Vulcan is easier for firefighters to operate when wearing gloves," Penney remarked.

The Fire Vulcan features a high-impact, non-conductive ABS thermoplastic housing with an improved cushioned handle that also makes it easier to grip the lantern with gloves. "Another benefit is the quick release buckle-style shoulder strap that is no longer an accessory, but comes standard with the Fire Vulcan," Penney added.

As safe as it is functional, the Fire Vulcan is approved for use in certain hazardous locations. The lantern is safety rated by Factory Mutual for use in Class I, II, III, Division 2 locations. The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has also certified its use for Class I, II, Division 2 and Class III environments.

The waterproof Fire Vulcan, available in a high-visibility orange casing, is equipped with an 8-watt spot bi-pin halogen bulb that delivers up to 65,000 candlepower. The new lantern measures 7.5 inches and weighs 3.3 pounds.

Available in a Standard or Vehicle Mount system, it operates on a 6-volt rechargeable battery that can be re-energized to full capacity up to 500 times using the included 120V AC or 12V DC charging cords. Both systems include red and green LED indicators that give charge status feedback.

The Fire Vulcan Standard System retails for $159.95, and the Vehicle Mount System has a suggested retail price of $149.95. Both models are backed by a one-year warranty on the body and switch.
