In a triad partnership, aimed at raising awareness of fire service health and safety issues, the IAFC’s Safety, Health & Survival Section (SHS), the National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Reporting System and the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) have come together to launch a monthly podcast.
The After Action podcast series leverages the data, discussions and expertise from across the three organizations to identify topics that are timely and relevant to the fire service. Driven by a needs assessment of health, safety and wellness issues, the podcast topics address issues directly affecting today’s responders.
The first podcast, on the topic of Mayday Command, is now available for download. Deputy Chief Ed Nied, Tucson Fire Department, discusses the command component of the IAFF’s Fire Ground Survival program.
This unity of message among leading advocates of firefighter safety will amplify the messages surrounding the importance of health and safety training, raise awareness of health and safety issues and promote continuing education within the fire service for enhancing a culture of safety. It’s the collective goal of these three stakeholder groups to contribute to the ongoing efforts to reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths, injuries and disabilities.
The podcasts will be moderated by SHS board member and Broward County, Fla., Assistant Fire Chief Todd LeDuc. They will typically be 30-minute dialogues with preselected fire service industry experts and safety advocates.
The podcasts will be posted and available for viewing on the SHS Section, National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Reporting System and ISFSI websites.
