The Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs (AAFC) is collaborating with Columbia Southern University (CSU) to present a summer conference, “Leadership in Action,” June 17-20 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach.
“This will be a great chance for networking with fire chiefs from all over the state as well as fire service leaders from across the nation,” said AAFC President Russell Ledbetter of Trussville, Ala. The AAFC is a fellowship of fire chiefs and senior chief officers from across Alabama.
One of the highlights of the conference, according to Ledbetter, is the pre-conference workshop on June 17 on “Effective Leadership Behaviors: The Anatomy and Physiology of Leadership.” Led by retired and renowned fire chief and author Alan Brunacini, the workshop will feature case studies, leadership training, management and fire service discussions.
Another guest speaker will be Mike Brooks, a law enforcement and security analyst for CNN. He will deliver a keynote speech about interacting with the media.
Ledbetter said he was excited to team with CSU, an online university that offers various associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. “The partnership has opened doors to more speakers as well as social media avenues,” he added.
Ledbetter will provide opening remarks for the event on June 18. Others slated to speak during the conference include Alabama Fire College Executive Director Allan Rice, UAB Medical Director Dr. Sarah Nafziger, Chief Rich Marinucci, Chief Patrick Kenny, Howard Cross, Chief Donnie West, Chief A.J. Martin and Paul Shapiro. The conference will also feature a high-volume water delivery demonstration on June 19.
