The newest structural fire glove is the Leather and Kovenex Commander by LION. The latest extrication glove is the X Plus Extrication Glove by Pro-Tech 8. Both gloves raise the bar in their respective categories.
The Leather and Kovenex Commander by LION has increased thermal protection as indicated by the Commander’s TPP results which are above 60, far in excess of the NFPA 1971 standard.
The next-generation CROSSTECH® insert is fully bonded to a form-fitting thermal liner to create a “3D” combination of thermal liner and moisture barrier.This results in better flexibility, less bulk in the palm and improved dexterity.
LION has enhanced the back of the hand by replacing the one-piece section with a three-piece section giving the glove better stretch and knuckle protection while allowing for improved grip.
In addition they modified finger crotches and thumb designs by incorporating construction typically used in 3D models to provide better fit and performance. The KOVENEX Thermal Fabric Blend is a flame resistant non-woven fabric made from a blend of three fibers.
The non-woven needle-punched felt is further stitch bonded with a non-melt Rayon yarn to lock in the fibers to prevent thinning and to maintain the loft of the fabric. This delivers excellent TPP and radiant heat protection while enhancing dexterity, which eases doffing and donning, especially when wet.
The fiber blend is also cut resistant, tear resistant and very skin friendly. As a result of all the improvements, this glove’s greater dexterity has been proven by third-party test results that show over 40% improvement for the new Commander model’s dexterity rating.
The Commander is available from TheFireStore.com in both a knit wrist and gauntlet style, in either blue or black and gold, and in sizes XS – 3XL. The X Plus Extrication Glove by Pro-Tech 8 has a durable rubberized Kevlar® and water resistant leather palm and an additional layer of rubber and silicon carbide in the knuckle guard.
All outer layer materials are flame resistant and the finger sidewalls feature flame resistant modacrylic. A 50% Kevlar®/ 50% cotton blend inner liner provides additional cut resistance and extra comfort.
All the components are stitched together using 100% Kevlar® high burst thread. A breathable polyurethane barrier provides resistance against blood borne pathogens while also keeping hands dry. A hook and loop closure secures these gloves to your wrist.
