KME is pleased to announce that the City of Atlanta has awarded KME an order for two heavy rescues, two tractor drawn aerials and eight custom pumpers to join the KME’s already in service.
The heavy rescue tandem chassis include a two-door KME custom cab for a maneuverable wheelbase, 500 hp engine, 25,000-pound bumper winch and driveline retarder. The aluminum walk-in rescue body includes interior countertops, bench storage, and a 15,000-watt generator. In addition the units include a 5-year service plan with 6- and 12- month maintenance intervals.
The TDA tractors will be KME Severe Service cabs and Cummins ISX-12 500 hp engines. The aerials include a 101-foot ladder with prepiped waterway, 10,000-watt generator and roof-mounted light tower.
The pumpers also include a Severe Service cab, Cummins ISX-12 450 hp engine, two-stage 1,500 gpm pump, 500-gallon water/30-gallon foam tanks, and galvanneal steel fire body. The body includes a low hosebed for easy access and KME’s Lock-N-Load treadplate cover for safe deployment.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department staffs 35 fire stations, including five stations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It has more than 1,000 employees, sworn and civilians, serving an area of 132 square miles within the city limits of Atlanta.
