Warrenton, VA – The Vision 20/20 Project, a national strategic agenda for fire loss prevention, announced it has received a grant for $20,000 USD from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc. With this grant, Vision 20/20 will create Community Risk Reduction (CRR) state teams, impacting over 500 fire service personnel. Vision 20/20 will help develop strategic plans in Illinois and South Carolina to improve public safety through risk assessments, home safety visits, smoke alarm installations, and community policing partnerships to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries of civilians and firefighters.
The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as The Vision 20/20 Project, which support and advance public safety programs and technology & engineering education initiatives. This year, programs that served underrepresented populations, including females, people with disabilities and veterans were prioritized.

With Motorola’s support, the next step is to develop state teams that will continue to spread this knowledge on a consistent and sustainable basis. Subject matter experts focused on assisting fire departments in their state will be a force multiplier in helping our nation adopt proven CRR best practices and, as a result, create safer communities.”
This state team approach blends risk data analyses with recommended best practices to increase CRR efforts and produce measurable results in high risk populations, including children, older adults, persons with disabilities, and those with low socioeconomic status.
In 2016, Motorola Solutions Foundation funded a grant that enabled Vision 20/20 to conduct CRR training workshops in Palm Beach County, Florida; Addison, Illinois; and San Diego County, California to help local fire departments adopt proven CRR practices. As a result, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association made Community Risk Reduction one of their top initiatives for 2017 and is building on this workshop with additional programs on CRR to reach more departments in Illinois.
This year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help over 2 million students, teachers, first responders, and community members across the United States. Each participant will receive an average of 186 programming hours from its partner non-profit organizations and institutions. Programs will support special populations including: females, underrepresented minorities, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, people with disabilities, and veterans.
